The land of Pantelleria represents a unique prosper vineyard. The native grapes of the island are Cataratto, Perricone, Nerello Mascalese, Pignatello and Zibbibo, also known as Muscat of Alexandria. This last type of grape is used to make the very popular "Passito of Pantelleria". The cultural tradition of wine uses the particular method " bush trained vines" alberello Pantesco, which is included in the Unesco Rappresentative list of the Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity. It's believed that this technique has been first developed by the Phoenicians, who arrived on the island 2500 years ago. Here, in Pantelleria the vineyard is built on a small terrace, border by lava stone wallls; these walls which draw the landscape, protect the biodiversity and are also useful to prevent the soil erosion. All the Belvisi Battista's wine are the final result of a clear and natural approch to wine making. He makes only a minimum intervention in the cellars as in the vineyard. Each grape is hand-picked. Pesticides or any other kind of chemical product is NOT used. The fermentation starts with indigenous yeats. Most of the wines have not sulphites added. These wines are authenthic and very exspressive, you will feel the Mediterranean vibes into the glass, trought the freshness floral taste.
